The Cincinnati Reds acquired right-hander Jose De Leon from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash and a player to be named later, the club announced Wednesday.

De Leon was once a highly touted prospect for the Rays. He was ranked No. 2 in Tampa Bay's system heading into the 2016 season and 33rd overall in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

The 27-year-old has accrued a career 6.08 ERA in 23 2/3 innings between the Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers. He didn't pitch in 2018 as a result of Tommy John surgery.

Tampa Bay, meanwhile, also designated Matt Duffy for assignment in what turned out to be a flurry of moves to shuffle the 40-man roster.

The 28-year-old infielder posted a .670 OPS with one home run in 46 games for the Rays in 2019.
