New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is still in touch with Didi Gregorius' agent about a potential return to the Big Apple, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

The free-agent shortstop said after the American League Championship Series that he'd like to stay with the Yankees. However, New York didn't extend him a qualifying offer and it was reported Tuesday that the club wasn't expected to pursue him aggressively, according to SNY's Danny Abriano.

Cashman said the team is confident with its current infielders, which includes Gleyber Torres at shortstop, according to Hoch.

The Cincinnati Reds, meanwhile, are rumored to be interested in Gregorius.

The 29-year-old Dutchman slashed .238/.276/.441 with 16 home runs in 82 contests last season after coming back from Tommy John surgery. He hit a career-high 27 homers in a healthy 2018 campaign.
