Cardinals remake lineup in hopes of staving off NLCS elimination
The St. Louis Cardinals are going with a different lineup with their season on the line Tuesday against the Washington Nationals in Game 4 of the NLCS.
The Cards made six changes to their batting order. Among those changes, Harrison Bader will hit seventh and play center field instead of Dexter Fowler, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
Here is the Game 4 lineup:
Batting order | Player | Position |
---|---|---|
1 | Tommy Edman | 3B |
2 | Jose Martinez | RF |
3 | Paul Goldschmidt | 1B |
4 | Marcell Ozuna | LF |
5 | Yadier Molina | C |
6 | Paul DeJong | SS |
7 | Harrison Bader | CF |
8 | Kolten Wong | 2B |
9 | Dakota Hudson | P |
This is the lineup that St. Louis went with in Game 3:
Batting order | Player | Position |
---|---|---|
1 | Dexter Fowler | CF |
2 | Kolten Wong | 2B |
3 | Paul Goldschmidt | 1B |
4 | Marcell Ozuna | LF |
5 | Jose Martinez | RF |
6 | Yadier Molina | C |
7 | Tommy Edman | 3B |
8 | Paul DeJong | SS |
9 | Jack Flaherty | P |
The Cardinals are on the verge of being swept after only scoring two runs in three contests against the Nationals.
History is not on St. Louis' side as a series has gone six games only three times after a team has gone down 3-0. The 2004 Boston Red Sox are the only squad in MLB history to win a best of seven after dropping the first three contests.
