Sabathia dominates in 1st career regular-season relief appearance

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia dazzled during the first relief appearance of his storied 19-year career Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The veteran pitcher entered as a reliever in the fourth inning and promptly struck out Travis d'Arnaud.

Sabathia then got Ji-Man Choi to ground out before completing a clean, 13-pitch inning by striking out Matt Duffy. With the second punchout, the 39-year-old recorded his 1,700th as a Yankee.

Prior to Tuesday's appearance, every one of Sabathia's 560 regular-season games came as a starter, which is the second-longest streak in MLB history behind Tom Glavine, according to MLB.com's Andrew Simon.

The one-time Cy Young winner and six-time All-Star will retire at the end of the season.
