The St. Louis Cardinals rallied to defeat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Sunday, sweeping a four-game series over their division rivals and earning a postseason berth in the process.

St. Louis returns to the playoffs after missing out the last three seasons. It's the 29th time in franchise history the Cardinals will appear in the postseason, last doing so in 2015 when they lost the National League Division Series in four games.

The Cardinals are in good position to clinch an NL Central title, holding a three-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers atop the division.

"We want to make sure we appreciate what we've accomplished and not take it lightly," Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said, according to MLB.com's Anne Rogers. "We're in the postseason. But we've got our sights set on clinching this division. That's where our head's at. We had a nice toast about it, felt good about it and now we move forward."

Chicago lost its fifth straight game by one run, and St. Louis swept the Cubs at Wrigley Field in a four-game set for the first time since 1921, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.

The Cubs can no longer win the NL Central after the loss.

However, Chicago can still earn a wild-card spot in the NL, but the Cubs trail the Washington Nationals and Brewers by four games.

Six games are left on the Cubs' schedule, including three against the Cardinals in St. Louis to close out the 2019 regular season.
