New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez left the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers with left groin tightness, the team announced, according to The Athletic's Lindsey Adler.
Kyle Higashioka replaced Sanchez ahead of the fourth inning.
Following the Yankees' win, manager Aaron Boone announced Sanchez will return to New York for further testing, according to Adler.
Sanchez said he felt the tightness when he squatted behind the plate shortly after getting caught stealing.
The 26-year-old also said Thursday's injury felt "very similar" to the groin strain that cost him 16 games between July 24 and Aug. 10, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
Sanchez entered Wednesday's action hitting .234/.317/.532 with 34 home runs and 77 RBIs and was 0-for-1 with a walk before exiting.
The catcher's early exit came after Yankees slugger Edwin Encarnacion was forced to leave Game 1 of the doubleheader with a left oblique strain. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ also exited Game 1 due to biceps tendinitis.
The Yankees have managed to post MLB's best record despite myriad injuries to key players this season.
