Schilling considering running for Congress in Arizona

Former major-league pitcher Curt Schilling is thinking about throwing his hat into the political ring.

The 20-year vet said Monday that he is considering running for a United States Congress seat in Arizona against one of the state's five Democrats.

"Not ready to do any of that right now. If/when things solidify I will but right now it's something in the 'I'm considering it' stage," Schilling said in a statement obtained by Ronald J. Hansen of the Arizona Republic.

Schilling - an outspoken conservative - has the president's support.

This is not the first time that Schilling has pondered a run at politics. A few years ago, he contemplated going up against Sen. Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts.

Schilling, 52, won a World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 and Boston Red Sox in 2004. He also spent eight-and-a-half years with the Philadelphia Phillies, which included three All-Star Game appearances and two 300-strikeout seasons.
