Blue Jays' Bichette: I didn't expect to be breaking records

Bo Bichette's historic start to his MLB career has surprised many - including himself.

While Bichette's 11-game hit streak came to an end in Friday's win against the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays shortstop had previously become the first rookie with an extra-base hit in nine straight games since Ted Williams accomplished the feat in 1939. He also became the first player to notch a double in nine consecutive contests.

"I’d be lying to you if I said I thought that I’d be breaking records, but I do expect to play well and I think those records are a byproduct of putting in the work and going out there and being aggressive and trying to treat the game like any other game," Bichette said, according to Scott Mitchell of TSN.

Bichette's dad, Dante, is pleased that his son is finally getting a chance to showcase what he can do.

"Bo’s been telling me since he was 3 years old that he could play in the big leagues," the former major leaguer said. "Welcome to my world. He was ready. I think he’s been ready. He was ready to get on with it. I don’t think he slept in a few weeks because he could feel it coming soon.

"I was watching the (Triple-A Buffalo Bisons) game when he actually got yanked out and they said he was going to the big leagues. I had trouble getting words out for a little while, man. I was like, 'Wow.'"

The 21-year-old is slashing a stunning .385/.439/.788 with four home runs and seven RBIs through his first 12 contests.
