Report: Cubs showing interest in Tigers' Castellanos

The Chicago Cubs are among the teams showing interest in acquiring Detroit Tigers outfielder Nicholas Castellanos, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.

If the Cubs trade for Castellanos, the club would probably move Jason Heyward to center and ask its new addition to play right field, McCosky notes.

Chicago has struggled against left-handers this season, and adding Castellanos could help buck that trend. The 27-year-old has recorded a 1.090 OPS against lefties during his 2019 campaign with the lowly Tigers.

In mid-June, Castellanos - an impending free agent - rejected Detroit's request to move to first base because the team didn't offer him a contract extension.

The 2010 first-round pick has spent his seven-year career with the Tigers. In 829 games he's slashed .275/.325/.460 with 103 home runs and 204 doubles.
