Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick has been suspended two games for his role in the home-plate collision with Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy, Major League Baseball announced Thursday, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

"After thoroughly reviewing the play from all angles, I have concluded that Jake's actions warrant discipline," MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre said in a statement acquired by Chandler Rome of The Houston Chronicle. "While I do not believe that Jake intended to injure Jonathan, the contact he initiated in his attempt to score violated Official Baseball Rule 6.01(i), which is designed to protect catchers from precisely this type of collision."

Lucroy suffered a fractured nose and concussion as a result of the collision. The Angels catcher stayed down on the field for some time despite attempting to get up multiple times while being tended to by medical staff. He did eventually get up before being carted off the field.

Marisnick was originally ruled safe at home - and represented the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly from George Springer - but was subsequently called out after his play was deemed illegal following a review.

The 28-year-old said he plans to appeal the ban.

"I would like to talk further with Major League Baseball on the play," Marisnick said, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com "I know deep down in my heart that I had no intent to hurt or make contact with him.”
