Pablo Sandoval's time with the San Francisco Giants may soon be coming to end.
With the trade deadline less than five weeks away, the team has already received calls on Sandoval, a source told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Sandoval is currently making the MLB minimum salary of $550,000 after signing a multi-year contract with the Giants in 2017 and has a club option for 2020. The Boston Red Sox retained the entirety of his previous five-year, $95-million contract when they released him in July 2017. That pact, signed after the 2014 campaign, includes a $5-million buyout.
The Giants are hoping the 32-year-old's production - .895 OPS in 73 games - and attractive contract can fetch them a solid prospect in a trade, Pavlovic notes.
San Francisco is reportedly looking to deal high-profile veterans, with left-hander Madison Bumgarner and closer Will Smith rumored to be drawing interest.
The club entered Friday's action with a 34-46 record, 20 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first in the NL West.
