Police in the Dominican Republic detained the alleged gunman of David Ortiz among four other suspects Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.
The person who police believe orchestrated the attempt on Ortiz's life was also detained.
Chief of police Ney A. Bautista said Ortiz's attempted killers took a payment of 400,000 Dominican pesos, or around $7,800.
Bautista showed that police have recovered the gun used to shoot Ortiz and revealed the identities of the suspects during Wednesday's press conference.

However, the police chief didn't address a potential motive.
"Two vehicles, one motorcycle, and several individuals participated in the attack against David Ortiz," Bautista stated, according to Marly Rivera of ESPN.
In court documents obtained by The Associated Press earlier Wednesday, the shooting was characterized as a coordinated attack.
"The investigation and the evidence compiled took us to one named Oliver Moises Mirabal," Bautista continued. "In Santiago, we arrested Ramon Martinez, the shooter."
Ortiz, 43, is expected to make a full recovery after requiring a second surgery once he arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital.
"David continues to recuperate ... in the Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital," his wife, Tiffany, said Wednesday. She added that he was able to sit up and take some steps but "will remain in the ICU for the coming days."
