Major League Baseball has extended the administrative leave for Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera through June 17, the league announced Monday.
Herrera was arrested May 27 after a domestic violence incident at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. The 27-year-old was subsequently charged with simple assault and is scheduled to make his first court appearance June 17.
The league placed Herrera on administrative leave - which can be extended every seven days - on May 28.
In light of the situation, the Phillies traded for veteran slugger Jay Bruce on Sunday to add some outfield depth.
Herrera is in the third season of a five-year, $30.5-million contract he signed with Philadelphia in 2016.
