The Los Angeles Angels will be without Mike Trout for the duration of their weekend series against the Chicago Cubs. The two-time American League MVP is still dealing with a groin injury and will be re-evaluated Sunday, according to a team announcement.
Trout will continue undergoing treatment and is reporting daily improvement, according to the team, which added that an MRI revealed a reduced amount of swelling.
The 27-year-old was injured in Tuesday's game while sliding into second base. He stayed in the game for one additional inning before being replaced in center field by Peter Bourjos.
The seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger had opened the 2019 campaign on an absolute tear, going 13-for-32 with five home runs and 13 walks.
Over the offseason, Trout signed a record-breaking 12-year contract extension worth $426.5 million that will keep him in Los Angeles through the 2030 season.
