Blue Jays' Travis out 4-6 weeks after knee surgery

The injury bug has once again hit Devon Travis.

The Toronto Blue Jays second baseman underwent arthroscopic surgery this week to repair a "small meniscus tear" in his left knee, the team announced, per Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. He'll be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks.

"Frustrated. Very frustrated," Travis told Sportsnet's Arash Madani.

"The fact that it's a meniscus, after all this, is the best news possible," he added. "Any surgery sucks, but this is probably the best it could be."

Travis appeared in just two Grapefruit League games before the knee issue sidelined him early in March.

Although he'll now miss Opening Day, manager Charlie Montoyo told Madani he's hoping Travis will be able to contribute later in the year once he's recovered.

The 28-year-old was a key contributor to the Blue Jays' playoff teams in 2015 and 2016, but has been hit hard by a variety of injuries during his career. Last season, Travis got into just 103 games due to another knee issue and hit a career-low .232/.275/.381.

In addition to Travis' injury, the Blue Jays also announced Sunday that pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. will miss the entire season following Tommy John surgery.
