Bryce Harper made his choice, and the rest of baseball has to live with it.
San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, for one, was let down that Harper chose Philadelphia.
"Sure, there's a little bit of disappointment," Posey said Friday, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. "We would have loved to have had him in the lineup, but at the same time you knew it was a possibility that he wouldn't make it here."
Harper, 26, signed a 13-year, $330-million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Posey's Giants emerged as a late suitor for the outfielder and reportedly offered Harper a 12-year deal worth $310 million.
Coming off a 73-89 campaign, the Giants could use some help in the outfield with Steven Duggar, Mac Williamson, and Gerardo Parra projected to be the club's starters.
Though the 2015 NL MVP went east instead of west, Posey remains optimistic.
"I think with some of the additions we've made already and some of the younger guys who get an opportunity to really show what they can do out in the outfield, we should be good," Posey said.
