Report: Grandal rejected 4-year, $60M offer from Mets

Yasmani Grandal wants a big contract this offseason. The 30-year-old free-agent catcher has had some interest on the open market but rejected a four-year, $60-million contract offer from the New York Mets, a source tells Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.

The Mets, in need of a new backstop, signed Wilson Ramos to a two-year, $19-million deal instead.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Grandal's prior squad, have been rumored to be pursuing a trade with the Miami Marlins for J.T. Realmuto, making a reunion appear unlikely.

Grandal previously rejected a $17.9-million qualifying offer for the 2019 season from the Dodgers so whichever team signs him will forfeit a competitive balance pick to them in next summer's draft.

But that doesn't mean the market has dried up for Grandal. Besides the Mets and Dodgers, the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros are reportedly among teams that have expressed interest in signing him.

The former All-Star has been a consistent force since coming to the Dodgers before the 2015 campaign. In four seasons with the club, he slashed .238/.337/.453 with 89 home runs, 76 doubles, and 245 RBIs in 510 games.
