The team signed catcher Wilson Ramos to a two-year deal Sunday, likely taking them out of the running for Realmuto.
The Mets were reported to be aggressively pursuing the Marlins backstop for most of the offseason; a number of their players including Amed Rosario, Michael Conforto, and Brandon Nimmo were mentioned as possibilities in a deal.
For close to a month, the Mets have reportedly been seriously considering deals for the hard-throwing Syndergaard, with the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, and Milwaukee Brewers named as potential trade partners along with the Marlins.
New York could still work out a trade for the 26-year-old ace but Syndergaard doesn't look like he wants to go anywhere.
During four seasons with the Mets, Syndergaard owns a 37-22 record with 573 strikeouts in 518 1/3 innings. He's under club control until 2021.
