The New York Yankees are close to a deal with free-agent starting pitcher J.A. Happ, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal on Wednesday.
Rosenthal initially reported that a contract - likely for three years - was agreed to before clarifying that no deal is in place yet.
On Tuesday, Happ reportedly indicated he'd sign with the first team to offer a guaranteed third season after receiving a number of two-year offers - mostly from contenders.
The southpaw was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Yankees in July and then authored a 7-0 record with a 2.69 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 11 starts before hitting free agency.
Over the course of his 12-year career, Happ owns a 109-82 record with a 3.90 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in more than 1,500 innings pitched.
The 36-year-old has reportedly been pursued by many teams this offseason, including the Phillies, Braves, Mets, Brewers, Angels, Reds, and Blue Jays.
