Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer can't understand how he finished outside the top five in American League Cy Young voting.

After the Baseball Writers' Association of America handed out the AL Cy Young award to Tampa Bay Rays lefty Blake Snell, Bauer took to Twitter to compare his and Snell's stats.

In a follow-up tweet, Bauer explained that he didn't disagree with the BBWAA's choice to award Snell. He just took umbrage with the fact that he finished outside the top five in voting.

Bauer pointed out that he ranked better or the same as Snell at a handful of advanced metrics, including FIP, FanGraphs WAR, Skill-Interactive ERA, and xFIP, as well as total strikeouts, and strikeout and walk rates.

Meanwhile, Snell ranked better than Bauer at ERA, WHIP, opponents' batting average, opponents' OPS, and Baseball-Reference WAR.

Bauer wound up finishing behind Snell, Justin Verlander, Corey Kluber, Chris Sale, and Gerrit Cole, receiving one third-place vote, three fourth-place votes, and four fifth-place votes.

The 27-year-old right-hander was held to 175 1/3 innings due to injury but still finished third among qualified American League starters by FanGraphs WAR. Sale didn't end up qualifying but was worth more FanGraphs WAR than Bauer.
