Holt won't redeem free Taco Bell: 'I could end up on a toilet all night'

When Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts stole second base in the first inning of Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night, he scored free tacos for the nation.

Taco Bell has a long-running promotion that rewards a free taco to patrons at all stores across the U.S. once a base is stolen during the World Series. Last year, Houston Astros outfielder Cameron Maybin did the honors.

However, one person who's not so enthused is Betts' teammate Brock Holt.

"I haven't eaten Taco Bell in probably 10 years," Holt told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. "I'll probably stay away from the free taco. I'll let everyone else get it.

"I would have to take my son (to Chipotle). He loves Chipotle. He crushes it. He's 2 years old and eats a whole Chipotle bowl by himself. I'd have to give him my free Chipotle. But Taco Bell, I'm going to pretty much stay away from Taco Bell. I could end up on a toilet all night."

Shortly before Game 2 began, Holt issued a mea culpa of sorts to MLB's sponsorship partner.

"I don't think I'll be trying Taco Bell. I'm sorry, Taco Bell," Holt said on Wednesday afternoon, per Speier. "... I apologize to Taco Bell. I'm sure a lot of people will get their free tacos, though."

Meanwhile, Betts has no such quibbles and was well aware of the promotion when he swiped the bag.

For those without allegiances to specific taco and burrito chains - and without sensitive Holt-like stomachs - the free Doritos Loco Taco can be snagged on Nov. 1 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
