Vin Scully declines invitation to broadcast NLCS
Sorry Dodgers fans, but Vin Scully won't be showing up to voice the National League Championship Series.
Scully was informally offered an invitation from FOX Sports broadcaster Joe Buck on Saturday to appear on the NLCS broadcast when the Dodgers-Brewers series shifts to Los Angeles this week.
When asked if he'd accept Buck's offer, the retired broadcaster said he'd decline.
"I don't want to just take a bow," Scully told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. "I just don't feel right doing that."
Buck's invitation to Scully came on the heels of him doing something similar for famous Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, who briefly jumped on the mic during Game 2 of the NLCS at Miller Park.
"It's not false modesty," Scully explained. "I just think I don't belong there.
"Those fellows have been broadcasting all year. I don't want to get into their spotlight in any way, shape, or form. I think they're doing a wonderful job."
The 90-year-old Scully called his last game in 2016 after 67 years in the booth for the Dodgers.
