David Price will remain a starter, for the time being.
Following another bad postseason start from the left-hander in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Saturday, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed his pitcher's role won't change.
"No, no, he's one of our starters," Cora said, according to Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. "Just a bad outing today. It just so happened it wasn't his day. He didn't make pitches. We trust him. He's bounced back before. We'll talk to him to make a few adjustments. And we'll go from there."
Price lasted just 1 2/3 innings against the New York Yankees after allowing three earned runs, which included home runs to Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.
The outing was Price's latest in a series of poor playoff starts dating back to 2010. While the southpaw has had some postseason success out of the bullpen, he remains winless in games where he starts.
"It's tough," Price said, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. "You know, just after we won Game 1 to go out there and have that opportunity to go up 2-0, and to throw the baseball the way that I did, it was definitely tough."
Because of his early exit, there's a chance Price could pitch out of the bullpen before making his next start. The lefty said he could be ready to pitch as early as Game 3 on Monday if needed.
"I just want to win. That's it. My main goal is to win in the playoffs, to win a World Series," Price said. "Whatever I have to do to help us do that, I'm fine with."
