The New York Yankees will be without closer Aroldis Chapman for at least a couple more weeks.
Chapman received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his ailing left knee on Friday and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, according to ESPN's Coley Harvey.
"We're optimistic he'll return in an impactful way this season at some point," Boone explained. "Hopefully this little timeout is something that can help freshen him up and get him back rolling for us before the end of the season."
Boone said it's possible the 30-year-old could play catch and slowly return to baseball activities at some point next week.
The Yankees placed Chapman on the 10-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis on Wednesday, one day after he abruptly exited a game against the Miami Marlins.
Chapman has been dealing with a sore left knee for months but has still managed to save 31 games in 33 chances, striking out 84 in 47 innings.
The banged-up Yankees are also without Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius, and Gary Sanchez.
