The Miami Marlins have traded reliever Brad Ziegler to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed minor-leaguer Tommy Eveld.

This marks the second time Ziegler has been traded to Arizona in the middle of the season, as the Oakland Athletics shipped him to the Diamondbacks back in 2011, where he stayed until 2016.

The 38-year-old right-hander is on an expiring contract and owns a 3.98 ERA and 4.58 FIP over 52 innings this year with the Marlins. Those statistics are dragged down by a bad May. Since then, Ziegler has struck out more than 20 percent of the batters he's faced over the past two months.

Ziegler joins an Arizona bullpen that ranks first among National League clubs in ERA, but only 11th in FIP. The D-Backs' new acquisition will help bolster the team's back end, which is led by Andrew Chafin, Archie Bradley, Silvino Bracho, and Yoshihisa Hirano. The move also helps compensate for Brad Boxberger's disappointing season, as the right-hander has authored a 4.61 FIP while giving up eight home runs over 38 2/3 innings in his first season with the club.

In exchange, Eveld is a 24-year-old reliever currently stationed at Double-A. The former ninth-round pick spent the majority of the 2018 season at High-A where he owned a 1.24 ERA and 2.42 FIP over 36 1/3 innings before earning a minor-league promotion.
