Report: Orioles eyeing 2 top Dodgers prospects in Machado talks
The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be one of the front-runners in the Manny Machado sweepstakes, and have apparently made aggressive overtures to potentially acquire the Baltimore Orioles All-Star.
As such, the Orioles have shown interest in catcher Keibert Ruiz and right-handed pitcher Dustin May, who are both top-10 prospects in the Dodgers' system, a source tells Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
One hitch is the Dodgers appear unlikely to deal Ruiz - MLB Pipeline's No. 44 prospect - for a rental player.
Ruiz, 19, has hit .243/.307/.364 with seven home runs in Double-A this season. While that slash line isn't amazing, he's showcased his ability to make contact with a minuscule 7.7 percent strikeout rate.
Pitching for High-A Rancho Cucamonga, the 20-year-old May is 5-3 with a 3.13 ERA and 71 strikeouts across 72 innings.
The asking price for Machado is understandably high, and the Dodgers have company in pursuit of his services. The Milwaukee Brewers are considered the most serious suitors beyond the Dodgers, though many more have already entered the fray. If the Dodgers aren't willing to pay what the Orioles want, it's possible another team will.
