At least seven teams have made offers for Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado, an industry source told The Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina.

Roch Kubatko of MASN previously reported the Cleveland Indians had made an offer for Machado, while the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Phillies, Braves, and Cubs were named as aggressive suitors for this season's most alluring trade chip. It turns out they've all sent offers to Baltimore.

Kubatko's and Encina's sources contradict a recent report from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com that indicated the Phillies moved on from Machado due to the steep asking price. They would reportedly be willing to include shortstop J.P. Crawford, currently on the disabled list with a fractured hand, in a deal.

The report also acknowledges that while the St. Louis Cardinals were an aggressive suitor during this past offseason's winter meetings, their recent struggles have forced them to reconsider their interest.

The Dodgers, listed as the most active pursuer of Machado, have reportedly discussed the inclusion of Alex Verdugo in a deal, though he hasn't been made available by Los Angeles. The 22-year-old outfielder has long been considered one of the top prospects in the Dodgers' system. Through 24 career games in the majors, Verdugo is 13-for-57 with one home run.

L.A. appears to be the best fit, with incumbent shortstop Corey Seager shelved after requiring Tommy John surgery. Seager will likely be at or near full health by the beginning of next season, with Machado eligible to hit free agency following the 2018 campaign.

Adamant about remaining at shortstop despite winning a pair of Gold Gloves at third base, Machado is posting career highs in all three triple-slash categories, with a .310/.381/.560 line, 21 homers, and seven stolen bases while at his new position. That being said, he rates as a below-average defender at shortstop this season by FanGraphs' metrics.
