'I'm tired of losing': deGrom vents as Mets claim worst record in NL
Jacob deGrom couldn't hold in his frustration Saturday afternoon after getting saddled with another tough-luck loss, this time a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Miami Marlins that capped a dismal 5-21 month for the flailing New York Mets.
"I'm frustrated," deGrom told reporters, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. "I'm tired of losing, to be honest."
With 10 losses in their last 11 contests, the Mets - who sat in first place in the NL East on May 1 - now own the worst record in the National League at 32-48, and remain mired in a brutal two-month stretch that has effectively dashed their early-season playoff hopes.
Their ongoing slide, however, can't be attributed to deGrom. The Cy Young hopeful turned in his ninth successive quality start Saturday at Marlins Park. Throughout that streak, deGrom - who leads all qualified starters with a 1.84 ERA - has just two wins, a testament to the Mets' punchless offense. In his last nine starts, New York has scored more than three runs just once, and they've been limited to one run or fewer four times.
As things stand, deGrom will likely be among the most highly coveted players as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches, and interim general manager John Ricco indicated earlier this week that he's willing to entertain offers for the 30-year-old right-hander (as well as Noah Syndergaard).

"Those are two huge pieces for us," Ricco told Kristie Ackert of The New York Daily News. "And we'll have to consider ... for me, everything has to be on the table, but you gotta look long and hard before you move game-changing, top of the rotation pitchers like that."
