Joe Girardi would like to manage again, but open to other options
It's been eight months since Joe Girardi was informed he wouldn't return to manage the New York Yankees following 10 seasons with the club, but the time off hasn't caused the 53-year-old to lose the coaching bug.
Girardi, who is working as an analyst with MLB Network, mentioned in April he'd be interested in returning to manage a big-league club in the future, which he re-iterated once again on Monday.
"No, that hasn't changed. I loved every minute of it. I've had a chance to do it 11 years in my life (10 seasons with the Yankees and one with the Marlins). I'd like to do it again," Girardi told Christian Red of the New York Daily News.
Girardi, who has 988 big-league wins on his resume, isn't interested in just managing, however. He explained if a different coaching position was available in an organization he'd be game for that, too.
"I would definitely listen. I love just being around the game, because it's what I've grown up doing my whole life. I'm not just married to managing," Girardi said. "I would listen to anything, but I would like to manage again."
The former skipper could take a page out of the book of Ruben Amaro Jr., who was once the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies and is now a first-base coach with the New York Mets.
