Gibbons refuses to speak with media after latest Blue Jays loss

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is not a happy man.

Toronto lost its fifth consecutive game on Saturday, this time a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers. With the game tied at four apiece, reliever Seung-hwan Oh allowed three Tiger runs in the eighth inning to ice the game for the home side.

A clearly upset Gibbons refused to speak with the media following the loss, stating through a team spokesperson that he had "nothing to say" about the game, according to Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun. It's the first time all season that the normally affable 55-year-old skipper hasn't addressed reporters after a game.

Gibbons had good reason to be frustrated following Saturday's defeat. De facto ace J.A. Happ was not his usual self, as he allowed four runs in only five innings of work. In addition, the injury bug struck Toronto again, as right fielder Teoscar Hernandez left the game in the third inning after fouling a pitch off his foot; Hernandez said that he wasn't seriously hurt, but will need "a couple of days" to heal up.

After finishing April with a 16-12 record, the Blue Jays fell completely flat in May, and those troubles seem to have continued into the month of June. Saturday was the team's fifth straight loss dating back to Monday, with the Jays just 2-8 over their last 10 contests. They now sit an even 14 games out of first place, while sporting a minus-31 run differential on the season.
