The Freak is getting closer to a return to the majors.
Tim Lincecum, who hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since joining the Texas Rangers in spring training due to a lingering blister, will finally begin a rehab assignment Monday at Triple-A Round Rock, the team announced.
The news comes after Lincecum successfully completed a 26-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.
Lincecum is still a ways away from donning a Rangers uniform, though, as he's currently on the 60-day disabled list and is ineligible to be activated before May 28.
Lincecum signed a $1-million deal with the Rangers in spring training and was competing for a spot in the bullpen before sustaining a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner last appeared in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2016, when he posted a 9.16 ERA over nine starts.
