Yadi leaves game after taking 102-mph foul tip to groin
Ouch.
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, known as one of the toughest and most durable catchers in the game, couldn't withstand this one. Cardinals pitcher Jordan Hicks' 102-mph fastball was foul-tipped by Kris Bryant directly into a rather uncomfortable place for Molina, who immediately fell to the ground in a heap.
After a few minutes of being tended to on the field, Molina left for the clubhouse under his own power and was replaced behind the plate by Francisco Pena. There was no immediate word on his condition.
Molina has rarely missed time due to injury over his 15-year catching career, and has appeared in at least 136 contests in eight of his last nine seasons.
The 35-year-old owns a .272/.292/.456 slash line with six homers and 17 RBIs through 30 games in 2018.
