With the Minnesota Twins opening a series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, Logan Morrison and Jake Odorizzi took the opportunity to go visit their former teammate Danny Farquhar, who remains in the hospital recovering from brain surgery after suffering an aneurysm.
"I told him to take the summer and relax and have a good time in Chicago, but that ain't him," Morrison told Scott Merkin of MLB.com regarding his two-hour visit with the reliever. "He wants to get out there."
Odorizzi said, "We're just like, 'Just enjoy your family, enjoy your kids. Don't worry about June, whatever the day it is that you can't pitch before.' I don't want to speak for him, but he seemed pretty optimistic that he was going to be able to pitch again. The doctors kind of said the same thing, but at the same time, he's had to take it day by day."
The Twins right-hander added, "Everything out of that situation couldn't have unfolded better from what we saw today. It was the normal Farquhar with just a scar on his head. You take the scar away, he's the same guy he's always been, so a pretty miraculous turnaround, considering it's been two weeks."
Morrison and Odorizzi formerly played for the Tampa Bay Rays alongside Farquhar. In July 2017, Farquhar was released by the Rays and signed with the White Sox. During the offseason, Morrison signed in Minnesota as a free agent while Odorizzi was traded to the Twins.
Farquhar was rushed to hospital two weeks ago after losing consciousness in the White Sox dugout following a one-inning relief appearance. A day later, it was revealed Farquhar had suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a ruptured aneurysm.
