Jarlin Garcia led the Miami Marlins in appearances out of the bullpen last season, and his career as a starter this year began about as impressively as possible.
In the second start of his career on Tuesday, Garcia carried a no-hitter through 4 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees. The sterling performance comes one week after pitched six no-hit innings against the New York Mets in his first-ever MLB start.
Miguel Andujar spoiled Garcia's no-hitter on a fifth-inning double on Tuesday. Despite the blemish, Garcia bounced back to retire the next two batters and allowed just one hit over five innings of work.
In total, the 25-year-old left-hander threw 10 1/3 no-hit frames to begin his career as a starter. Working out of the bullpen to begin the year before his conversion, Garcia has allowed two runs on six hits over 21 innings pitched.
Making the feat even more impressive, both the Mets and Yankees lineups have been impressive this year, ranking sixth and second in offense, respectively, in their leagues heading into Tuesday, according to FanGraphs' wRC+.
The impressive stretch ties the MLB record previously held by Bobo Holloman, who threw a nine-inning no-hitter in his first career start back in 1953, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
