The Washington Nationals are going to spend the next little while without one of their most productive hitters after placing outfielder Adam Eaton on the 10-day disabled list with a bone bruise in his left ankle. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo confirmed to 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, per MASN Sports' Byron Kerr.

The Nationals will purchase the contract of outfielder Moises Sierra as Eaton's replacement, while also activating catcher Matt Wieters and designating Miguel Montero for assignment.

Eaton sat out his second straight game Tuesday, having initially tweaked the ankle trying to score from first base during the Nationals' home opener.

X-rays taken last week did not reveal any structural damage.

Eaton sprained the same ankle last season on the play that ultimately ended his campaign because of knee ligament tears.

Prior to his injury, Eaton was hitting .345/.424/.655.
