Christian Yelich needs a little more time to heal his lingering oblique ailment.
The Milwaukee Brewers announced Sunday that the outfielder, who has missed the last three games due to an oblique injury, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to April 5.
Right-hander Taylor Williams was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs in a corresponding move.
Yelich departed Milwaukee's game against St. Louis on Wednesday in the seventh inning after complaining of right oblique stiffness. The 26-year-old ended up missing the team's next three games because of the issue.
Milwaukee feels that Yelich's situation has improved, but not enough to get him back on the field just yet, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. By back-dating the DL stint to Thursday, Yelich is eligible to be activated April 15.
Yelich was one of the Brewers' marquee offseason acquisitions, and was off to an excellent start with his new team, slashing .385/.407/.577 with three extra-base hits and five RBIs before the injury.
