Adam Eaton saw his 2017 season end very early after suffering a torn ACL last April. Now, just three games into his comeback season, he's already picked up some hardware.
The Washington Nationals outfielder was named National League Player of the Week after his red-hot season-opening series this past weekend. Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak took home the American League honors.
Eaton absolutely shredded Cincinnati Reds pitching over the weekend, putting up an outrageous .615/.643/1.231 slash line with two homers, five RBIs, and a walk. Though it's still quite early in the season, he's already leading the NL in several offensive categories, including hits (eight) and runs scored (seven).
Smoak, meanwhile, put on a power display in Toronto over the weekend. The 31-year-old hit .467/.529/1.000 during the Blue Jays' four-game set against the New York Yankees, with four extra-base hits and an MLB-leading eight RBIs. He crushed two homers on Sunday afternoon, including the game-winning grand slam off David Robertson in the eighth inning.
It's the second time Eaton and Smoak have earned the league's weekly honor during their respective careers.
