Travis d'Arnaud's history of injuries will now include Tommy John surgery.
The oft-injured New York Mets catcher has decided to undergo the surgery after tearing the UCL in his right elbow, the team announced, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
He'll miss the remainder of the 2018 season.
The 29-year-old was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday and was transferred to the 60-day DL on Friday.
D'Arnaud, who has experienced a multitude of injuries throughout his six years in the majors, appeared in a career-high 112 games for the Mets last season, hitting 16 home runs and driving in 57. He was hitting .200/.250/.400 with a home run and three RBIs through four games this year.
Fellow catcher Kevin Plawecki (fractured hand) was also placed on the 10-day DL by New York.
The Mets selected the contract of veteran backstop Jose Lobaton from Triple-A Las Vegas. He'll join youngster Tomas Nido behind the dish.
