The Boston Red Sox announced Saturday they've signed catcher Christian Vazquez to a three-year contract extension through the 2021 season, with a club option for the 2022 campaign.

Vazquez's deal is worth $13.55 million guaranteed from 2019-21 with a buyout for 2022, according to Sean McAdam of Boston Sports Journal. The team also announced Vazquez has offered to make an annual donation to the Red Sox Foundation.

Including the option, the Red Sox now have Vazquez under club control for five years. The 27-year-old has been splitting catching duties with Sandy Leon.

Vazquez appeared in 99 games for Boston last season, hitting .290/.330/.404 with five home runs and 32 RBIs. Defensively, he threw out 42 percent of attempted base-stealers.
