Report: Marlins trade Ozuna to Cardinals
After missing out on Giancarlo Stanton, it appears the Cardinals have gotten their hands on a different Miami Marlins outfielder.
St. Louis acquired All-Star outfielder Marcell Ozuna for right-handed pitching prospect Sandy Alcantara, outfield prospect Magneuris Sierra, and minor-league starters Daniel Castano and Zac Gallen, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
Sierra is the Cardinals' No. 6 prospect, Alcantara is No.9, while Gallen comes in at No. 13, according to MLB Pipline.
St. Louis has been linked to Ozuna since missing out on Stanton, who was traded Saturday to the New York Yankees.
If the deal goes through, the Marlins will have continued to chip away at their roster in an effort to reduce payroll and begin a rebuild. They've already moved Stanton and Dee Gordon and are reportedly making outfielder Christian Yelich available via trade.
Ozuna made $3.5 million last season but was projected to make $10.9 million in arbitration next season, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
The 27-year-old made his second All-Star appearance last season after hitting .312/.376/.548 with 37 home runs and 124 RBIs.
