Asdrubal Cabrera will stick it out in Queens for at least one more season.
The New York Mets exercised their $8.5-million team option on the versatile infielder for 2018.
Cabrera's buy-out clause for next season had previously been set at $2 million.
After opening the season as the Mets' starting shortstop, Cabrera was shifted to second base midway through the season. He was then moved over to third base in July as the Mets attempted to widen a potential trade market for him, though no move ever materialized.
Cabrera slashed .280/.351/.434 in 135 games with New York this season, chipping in with 14 home runs and 32 doubles.
