Report: D-Backs will do everything to re-sign Martinez

J.D. Martinez's tenure with the Arizona Diamondbacks was record-setting, and the impending free-agent slugger may well return to the desert.

According to a report from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Diamondbacks plan to do everything within their means to retain Martinez this winter.

The feeling is reportedly mutual as well, with the 30-year-old Martinez reportedly wanting to remain in Arizona. Cafardo cites sources that suggest Martinez would prefer to play in a secondary market and not necessarily be the star of the team.

While Martinez made a great impression with the Diamondbacks, the main attraction in Arizona is their first baseman and five-time All-Star, Paul Goldschmidt.

Martinez was acquired from the Detroit Tigers during the 2017 season and went on to set a Diamondbacks record by hitting 31 home runs in the second half of the campaign.

Martinez will be eligible for free agency for the first time this offseason, and there will likely be many suitors eyeing the top slugger of the 2017 class.
