The hit capped off a remarkable comeback for the home side Friday. The Yankees led 8-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning before Francisco Lindor hammered a grand slam off the right-field foul pole to make it a one-run deficit. Jay Bruce tied the game 8-8 in the eighth with a solo home run.
It was the second walk-off hit for Gomes this season, and the first postseason walk-off hit for the Indians since Travis Hafner's in 2007.
Cleveland takes a 2-0 series lead into the Bronx with a chance to advance to the ALCS.
