Greinke becomes latest wild-card starter to get early hook

If the wild-card games are any indication, 2017 is shaping up to be the postseason of the bullpen.

After cruising through the first three frames of Wednesday's National League wild-card game unscathed, Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke couldn't escape the fourth inning when the Colorado Rockies stormed back to tag him for four runs. When he was finally pulled after just 3 2/3 innings, the D-Backs' 6-0 lead had been cut to just 6-4, and Greinke became the latest starter to see his evening cut short.

With Greinke's early exit, this year's four wild-card game starters - Greinke, Ervin Santana, Luis Severino, and Jon Gray - combined to throw just 7 1/3 innings in the winner-take-all games.

Greinke left the game with a runner on first, but Andrew Chafin picked up his teammate by getting Charlie Blackmon to pop out to center field, ending the inning and limiting the damage. Arizona led the Rockies 6-4 after three-and-a-half innings.
