The New York Mets' injury-plagued season took its latest hit Friday as outfielder Michael Conforto was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a dislocated shoulder, according to SNY.tv, thus ending his campaign.
Conforto injured his shoulder Thursday while taking a swing against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He was helped off the field by a trainer and wore an immense amount of pain on his face before the team announced he'd dislocated his left shoulder.
Conforto may opt for surgery, which could force him to miss four-to-six months, according to a shoulder specialist who spoke with Marc Carig of Newsday.
"The problem in this case is that this player dislocated his shoulder without any major trauma," Dr. Armin Tehrany told Carig. "It was his non-dominant arm. He was just swinging a bat. And that alone led to the dislocation, which means that the likelihood that it happens again after he heals is very high."
Conforto joins a growing list of Mets players on the DL, including Noah Syndergaard, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, Zack Wheeler, and David Wright.
The 24-year-old hit .279/.384/.555 with 27 home runs and 68 RBIs across 109 games this season.
