Call the police because Wil Myers just committed three counts of robbery.
The San Diego Padres first baseman pulled off perhaps the rarest of base-running feats in the fourth inning Wednesday when he stole his way around the bases, becoming the first Padres player to do it.
After reaching base on an RBI single, Myers stole second without a throw from Philadelphia Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp, then took third without being contested on what was ball four to Austin Hedges. When Hedges got caught in a rundown between first and second, Myers alertly scampered home and beat Tommy Joseph's desperate cross-body throw home to complete the stunning trifecta and give San Diego a 2-0 lead.
Myers is the first player to steal his way around the bases since Dee Gordon pulled it off as a member of the Dodgers on July 1, 2011.
According to Baseball Almanac, Hall of Famer John McGraw was the first player to steal all three bases in one inning for the original Baltimore Orioles in 1899.
Including Myers on Wednesday, it's now been done a total of 54 times in baseball history by 43 individual players; Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner both did it four times in their careers. But while it was once a semi-common occurrence in the first half of the 20th century, only five players - Myers, Gordon, Philadelphia's Jayson Werth, Kansas City's Chris Stynes, and Colorado's Eric Young Sr. - have done it since the 1990 season.
Myers has now stolen 14 bases on the season.
