You can put it on the board: Hawk Harrelson hates Wrigley Field.
The Chicago White Sox broadcaster stated earlier this month that he will never go back to Wrigley Field, and he took things a step further Sunday by saying it's time to replace the iconic 103-year-old home of the Chicago Cubs.
"It's just time for that ballpark to be replaced," Harrelson said, according to Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago. "It's just that simple. I'm only saying stuff that everybody knows who goes there. But nobody wanted to say it, so I decided yeah (to say it). I'll never step another foot inside Wrigley Field."
Wrigley Field, which opened in 1914, has undergone extensive renovations in recent years which included expanding the outfield bleachers, the addition of a video scoreboard, the renovation of the home clubhouse, and moving the bullpens off the playing field. The club, however, hasn't done much in terms of updating the visitor's clubhouse and broadcast booths, according to Harrelson.
"For the visiting team, Wrigley has the worst clubhouse in baseball," Harrelson said. "Once you get on the field, it's great, the same way as at Fenway Park. Fenway Park is second, the second-worst clubhouse in baseball. And once you get on the field, it's great. I'm just tired (of it). The broadcast booths are terrible. They're the worst in Major League Baseball."
Luckily for the 75-year-old Harrelson, he won't have to endure the press box at Wrigley Field much longer as he's set to retire after next season.
