Yet another third baseman appears to be catching the eye of the Boston Red Sox.
The San Francisco Giants have reportedly made infielder Eduardo Nunez available, and the Red Sox - in dire need of a solution at the hot corner after missing out on dealing for Todd Frazier - are reportedly eyeing the 30-year-old, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Nunez, who joined the Giants in a trade-deadline deal last July, has appeared mostly as a third baseman this season while also playing some left field and shortstop. A hamstring injury cost him several weeks of the season, but he still owns a .727 OPS with 17 stolen bases across 69 games this year. On Tuesday, he delivered a walk-off single to help the Giants top Cleveland in 10 innings.
Nunez is earning $4.2 million this year and will be a free agent at season's end.
Nine Red Sox third basemen have combined to record minus-0.7 Wins Above Replacement this season. Only the Giants (minus-0.8 WAR) have received less production from the hot corner in 2017.

Other third basemen the Red Sox are reportedly targeting besides Nunez include a trio of Mets infielders in Asdrubal Cabrera, Wilmer Flores, and T.J. Rivera, as well as Pittsburgh's Josh Harrison and Oakland's Jed Lowrie.
