Watch: Yankees' Castro boots pop-up, hands A's walk-off win

Starlight, star bright, Starlin Castro tried with all his might - but he just couldn't squeeze that third out.

The New York Yankees seemed to be on track for an extra-inning victory in Oakland on Thursday night after scoring a go-ahead run in the 10th. They still looked to be in perfect position to finish it off despite rookie reliever Giovanny Gallegos - who was in search of career save No. 1 - loading the bases with two outs in the bottom half, because Gallegos got Athletics slugger Khris Davis to weakly pop it up behind second base.

But Castro took a bizarre route to Davis' pop-up, then attempted to make a backhanded catch that deflected the ball into no-man's land, giving Davis a bizarre two-run, walk-off single and the A's a wild 8-7 victory.

Castro remained sprawled facedown on the field in dismay while the home team started to celebrate.
