Well, that's embarrassing.

On Friday, Oakland Athletics shortstop Adam Rosales really wanted to show his hustle diving into third base with a headfirst slide against the New York Yankees in the eighth inning after a failed pickoff attempt.

Unfortunately, Rosales ended up a little short with his slide, slamming his face into the dirt.

One batter later, he nearly thumped his face into the dirt again during a play at the plate, where he was tagged out by Yankees backstop Austin Romine.

The 34-year-old Rosales ended up with a raspberry under his right eye after the ugly slide attempt, which he blamed on the "sticky" dirt at Yankee Stadium, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
